# Automated Operator Assignment via the UID Function

## This article guides you through the steps to implement this automated assignment by fully leveraging RFID and UID technologies.

In the era of **Industry 4.0**, **automated operator assignment** on machines is crucial for improving efficiency, productivity, and task tracking. Utilizing the **K2 App Unique Identifier (UID) feature** in conjunction with **RFID tags** allows for rapid, accurate, and reliable identification of operators.

### **Prerequisites for Automated Operator Assignment via RFID**

- **Installed RFID Module**: Ensure your machine is equipped with a compatible RFID module that is properly installed and configured.
- **Preprogrammed RFID Tags for Each Operator**: Each operator should have a unique RFID tag, preprogrammed with their **Unique Identifier (UID)**.
- **Technical Knowledge**: Familiarize yourself with the concepts of **data flow** and the **rule engine** of the software used to manage your machines.

### **Step 1: Access the Data Flow of the RFID Module**

1. **Open the Data Flow**: Access the main menu of the software and select **"Data Flow"**.
2. **Select the RFID Data Flow**: Locate and choose the flow associated with your machine's RFID module, such as **"Machine\_RFID"**.
3. **Verify RFID Readings**: Confirm that the flow captures readings from **RFID tags** in real-time.

### **Step 2: Verify the Operator's RFID Tag Value**

1. **Identify the Variable RFID\_EPC**: In the data flow, find the variable linked to the RFID tag reading.
2. **Confirm the RFID Tag Value**: Ensure that the current value of **"RFID\_EPC"** corresponds to the operator's RFID tag. Test the result by bringing different cards near the detection point.

### **Step 3: Associate the RFID Tag with an Operator via the Unique Identifier (UID)**

1. **Copy the RFID Tag Value**: In the data flow, select and copy the alphanumeric value of the scanned card's **"RFID\_EPC"**.
2. **Access Machine Settings**: In the **"Configuration"** section of the sidebar menu, click on **"Machines"** to access the list of configured machines.
3. **Select the Relevant Machine**: Choose the machine connected to the RFID module.
4. **Open the "Operators" Tab**: In the machine settings, navigate to the **"Operators"** tab.
5. **Find and Select the Operator**: Identify the operator to associate with the RFID tag.
6. **Enter the Unique Identifier (UID)**: Paste the RFID tag value into the **"Unique Identifier (UID)"** field in the operator's profile.
7. **Save the Changes**: Save your changes to ensure the system recognizes the association.

### **Step 4: Create an Automatic Assignment Rule in the Rule Engine**

1. **Access the Rule Engine**: In the **"Configuration"** section of the sidebar menu, select **"Rule Engine"**.
2. **Create a New Rule**: Click on **"New Rule"** and name it, for example, **"Automatic Operator Assignment via RFID"**.
3. **Define the Trigger for the Rule**:
     1. **Trigger Type**: Select **"Value"**.
            1. **Variable**: Choose **"RFID\_EPC"**.
            2. **Will Trigger**: Opt for **"Each time the value changes"** so the rule executes with every new RFID reading.
4. **Add the Corresponding Action**:
     1. **Action Type**: Select **"Machine Parameter"**.
            1. **Target Machine**: Choose the machine equipped with the RFID reader.
            2. **Parameter to Modify**: Select **"Operator by UID"**.
            3. **Value to Apply**: Enter **"$RFID\_EPC"** to use the value of the read RFID tag.
            4. Click **"Submit"** to create the action.
5. **Activate and Save the Rule**: Save the rule by clicking **"Submit"** to make it operational.

### **Step 5: Validate the Automated Operator Assignment Process**

1. **Test the System**: Have the operator present their RFID tag to the reader.
2. **Verify Automatic Assignment**: Check the dashboard to confirm the operator is correctly assigned to the machine.
3. **Troubleshoot if Necessary**: If the assignment fails, revisit the previous steps to identify and correct any errors.

### **Tips and Best Practices for Automating Operator Assignment**

- **Ensure RFID Data Consistency**: Verify that RFID tags are correctly programmed and match the system's expected format.
- **Use Clear Naming Conventions**: Choose explicit names for data flows, variables, and rules to simplify maintenance.
- **Conduct Regular Testing**: After each modification, test the system to ensure proper functionality.
- **Maintain Up-to-Date Documentation**: Keep records of RFID configurations, operator-tag associations, and created rules.
- **Secure RFID Tags**: Protect tags from unauthorized use to prevent incorrect assignments.

### **Concrete Example of Automated Operator Assignment Using RFID and UID**

Consider the example of **Alex Martin**:

- **Alex's RFID Tag Value**: **"E2000017221101441890C7F3"**.
- **Association with the Operator**:
- The value is pasted into the **"Unique Identifier (UID)"** field of Alex Martin's profile.
- **Creation of the Assignment Rule**:
- A rule named **"Automatic Operator Assignment via RFID"** is configured to assign the operator based on the tag's UID.
- **Validation**:
- When Alex presents his tag to the reader, he is automatically recognized and assigned to the machine.

### **Conclusion**

**Automated operator assignment** using **UID** and **RFID technology** is a powerful tool for optimizing industrial processes. By automating identification, you reduce errors, improve data accuracy, and enhance efficiency. Adopting this solution positions you at the forefront of **Industry 4.0**, strengthening the overall performance of your operations.
